This cd, the tenth release by Johan Berke Upstairs Five, contains nine original compositions, and was recorded in mid December 2017.

It was the first time trumpeter Niklas Barnö appeared on cd with us, alongside saxophonist Fredrik Nordström, and the third recording with our new bass player since 2016; Robert Erlandsson.
Drummer Fredrik Rundqvist is present as usual, for which I am continously grateful.

With the exception of the solo guitar piece, “So Long Allan”, dedicated to guitarist Allan Holdsworth, who sadly passed away in 2017, the tunes on RESISTANCE BLUES is oriented towards melodic, modern jazz, often with subtle be bop roots, with just a few excursions into uncharted free jazz territories.
